To begin your visit to HIMAHEALTH, we’ll develop a Care Coordination Protocol that outlines your individual treatment plan.
It details the following information:
- Before departing, what you need to do
- Pre-op care at the hospital and what to expect
- Preadmission
- Day of surgery and what to expect
- Post-op at the hospital
- Post-op after leaving the hospital in Puerto Rico
- Post-op back home
- Transfer of records to your home physician and follow-up care

All patients must follow specific instructions before and after admission at our five facilities . Information will be provided depending the center or area you will be admitted to and the type of treatment. Please follow instructions for each area . A host/hostess will accompany you throughout the whole process.
The guidelines will include:
- Pre Admission Process and Instructions
- Detailed Medical Instructions (dietary, medications, preparation etc)
- Insurance or Payment Information
- HIMA Health Services provided and orientation
- Hospital General Information for patient and companion
- Hospital and Admitted area Rules and Regulations
- Visiting Hours

We accept most major US and International Insurance and we can make agreements with governments, TPA’s and self insured corporations. Patients that are self-pay are prepared an estimate or package depending on the type of treatment.
- Contact our 24/7 call center and we will send general information and a registration form .
- In order to verify your insurance information please fill the registration form with your complete insurance and contact information including copy of your insurance card.
- We will contact your insurance company about coverage, copays and deductibles and contact you after information is received.
- Self Pay patients will receive an estimate or package pricing.

Puerto Rico is easily accessible by daily direct flights from almost every major U.S. City and Caribbean nations to the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in Carolina.
Airlines flying into San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport include American , Continental, Delta, United, Jet Blue and Spirit Airlines.
International Flights from Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean are also available from Iberia,Copa, Avianca , Seaborne , Cape Air, LIAT among many other international airlines.

Puerto Rico is a US Territory thus a US Visa is required for specific countries. No passport is required if travelling from the Continental United States.

HIMA Health will provide complimentary transportation to and from the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport for our patients Monday – Friday if there is availability and specific rules and regulations apply. The transportation has to be coordinated in advanced by contacting our staff and sending them your travel itinerary .
For other options:
- There are many options for rental car, from US companies like Hertz and Budget to local companies like Charlie Rental Car and Target. Most companies have offices at the airport. Driving regulations are very similar to the US, still signs are in Spanish and gasoline is measured in liters.
- Taxi Services: there are taxi stands at the airport with specific rates, also they are available at hotels, hospital lobby or to call a service directly. Ask HIMA Health for a list of services.
